Bridge Inspection Frequency All publically owned and operated bridges require a bi-annual inspection. Bridge Inspections required 24 months . Condition ratings are reported to the State Department of transportation for uploading to FHWA. Bridge Inspection requirements by Federal Law i.e Title 23 - Highways Part 650 Subpart C.  By the code of federal regulations (CFR) A bridge is defined as any structure spanning 20 feet or more. We are excited to announce that we have located some of the Bridge Engineering Newsletter (SPANS) and republished the archive. This valuable source of bridge engineering history was published quarterly from January 2003 until July 2011. These newsletters are very informative about major bridge engineering projects starting in January 3, 2003 ().  This author became aware of this Newsletter when he had been the article regarding the Robert E. Lee Bridge in Richmond, VA. At the time this author was the City Bridge Engineer and was responsible for it as well as 83 other bridges. Nils Olsson the author of this newsletter had a part of the design and construction as well as Teddy Theryo PE as Oct 2007 edition. Both engineers worked for for DRC consultants.
